Jeddah Travel Itinerary: Top 10 Must-Do Experiences

Jeddah wasn’t just another stop on my travel itinerary it was a city that instantly pulled me in with its history, hospitality, and hidden gems. Nestled along the Red Sea, Jeddah is a blend of old-world charm and modern marvels. From shopping in age-old souks to sipping coffee on the Corniche, here are 10 unforgettable things I did in this vibrant Saudi city — starting right at its cultural heart.

1. Wandered Through Al-Balad and Shopped for My Family

My first stop? Al-Balad — Jeddah’s historic district and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I strolled through narrow alleyways flanked by centuries-old coral stone buildings with stunning wooden balconies.

I spent hours exploring local markets and shops, picking up beautiful abayas, handmade souvenirs, oud perfumes, and sweets to bring back home. The shopkeepers were incredibly warm, offering stories with every item I picked up. Al-Balad isn’t just a place you visit — it’s a place you feel.

2. Tasted Traditional Kapsa in a Local Eatery

Nothing introduces you to a city like its food. I stopped at a cozy local restaurant tucked away in Al-Balad and ordered Kapsa — Saudi’s signature dish made with rice, lamb, and aromatic spices. It was comforting, flavorful, and everything I hoped for.

3. Watched the Sunset Along the Jeddah Corniche

In the evening, I made my way to the Corniche — Jeddah’s beautiful waterfront promenade. Families were out enjoying the breeze, vendors sold ice cream, and the sky turned golden as the sun set over the Red Sea. Watching the King Fahd Fountain light up and shoot water 300 meters into the air was nothing short of magical.

4. Visited the Floating Mosque (Al Rahma Mosque)

The next morning, I visited the serene Floating Mosque, built over the sea and surrounded by tranquil waters. Visiting at sunrise made the experience even more peaceful. The mosque’s design and calm setting made it one of the most memorable stops of my trip.

5. Explored the Open-Air Sculpture Museum

Jeddah surprised me with its open-air art. I explored the Jeddah Waterfront Sculpture Park, where massive works by international artists like Salvador Dalí are displayed by the sea. The blend of art, nature, and ocean breeze was unlike anything I’d experienced before.

6. Enjoyed Arabic Coffee at a Rooftop Cafe

One of my favorite moments was sipping qahwa (Arabic coffee) with dates at a rooftop café overlooking the city. The view of Jeddah’s old-meets-new skyline, paired with the fragrant coffee, made it a moment of quiet reflection amid my busy trip.

7. Took a Day Trip to Obhur

Just 30 minutes north of Jeddah is Obhur, a beachside paradise on the Red Sea. I spent a full day relaxing on a boat, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and soaking in the sun. It was the perfect contrast to the city’s buzz a reminder that Jeddah has a soft, sandy side too.

8. Admired the Jeddah Flagpole and Fountain by Night

Back in the city, I visited the Jeddah Flagpole, one of the tallest in the world, lit up proudly at night. I lingered by the King Fahd Fountain once more — this time, in the quiet of night, its soaring stream glowing white against the black sky.

9. Walked Through Jeddah Central (New Downtown)

Curious about Jeddah’s future, I visited the developing Jeddah Central project — a vision of the city’s next chapter. With modern architecture, open spaces, and cultural centers in progress, it’s clear the city is stepping boldly into the future while honoring its past.

10. Wrapped Up with Dessert at Bafarat Café

Before leaving, I made one last indulgent stop at Bafarat Café — a stylish spot blending traditional Saudi flavors with modern desserts. I tried the saffron milk cake and pistachio latte (highly recommend both!). It was the sweetest way to end a rich, unforgettable trip.

Final Thoughts

Jeddah is a city that stays with you — not because it demands attention, but because it deserves it. It’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time wandering through ancient streets, then find yourself marveling at futuristic skylines a few hours later.

If you’re looking for a destination full of soul, stories, and surprises, Jeddah should be at the top of your list.
